For its Wednesday, March 30th meeting, the Discussion Group of CIM’s Management and Economics Society is pleased to welcome:

Richard A. Ross, B.Comm, C.A.

Program Director and Inmet Chair in Global Mining Management
Schulich School of Business – York University

who will deliver a presentation on:

Taking Sustainability to the Next Level for Mining

Abstract: The term “Sustainability” is broadly used by the mining sector as it relates just to social and environmental matters. Are these the only aspects of a business that make it sustainable? Mr. Ross will discuss a broader application of the term “Sustainability” which may help mining companies to more successfully execute long term strategies through the peaks and valleys of the metal price cycles.

BIO: A 35-Year veteran of the mining industry, Mr. Ross now devotes his time, energy and passion for the industry to the development and direction of the Global Mining Management MBA Program at the Schulich School of Business. This program graduates students who aspire to leadership roles in the industry and related service sectors.

The wealth of experience Mr. Ross brings to the Schulich program includes twenty years with Inmet Mining Corporation, the last ten as Charmain and CEO after holding the positions of Executive Vice President and CFO. Prior to Inmet he was with Placer Dome.

In addition, Mr. Ross has held a number of Board of Directors positions in both public and non-profit organizations including Chairman of the Mining Association of Canada and Chairman of the St. Joseph’s Health Centre. Mr. Ross received his Chartered accountant designation in 1982 while working at Price Waterhouse and his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto in 1980.
