who will deliver a presentation on:
Possible Futures Available for the Exploration Industry
Abstract: The mining industry has experienced many cycles. Reporting standardization and regulatory reform was the industry response to regain investor confidence after the Bre-X fraud and underpinned the next decade of growth., Since mid-2011, however, the industry as a whole has recorded more than $250 billion in impairment write downs. Social pushback and resource nationalism demands thwarted aggressive project completion targets and economic projections. The industry is struggling to regain its footing, applying traditional focus on cost cutting and higher quality targets, but the outlook remains flat. The minerals industry is in the midst of a fundamental shift as output and consumption are realigned and market control forces are restructured. China is opting for large scale solutions, believing bigger is better, many developing countries see small scale artisanal operations as the solution to more efficient commodity production and social peace. Metal trading is being re-organized for more transparency. Traditional project financing has become more risk adverse and new approaches such as crowd funding and streaming are stepping in. More and more issuers understand that future survival may mean establishing partnerships with governments, sharing facilities and joint infrastructure development as well as greater collaboration with competitors and local communities.
