CIM Montréal, in collaboration with CIM MES Montréal, are pleased to present:
CIM Dinner Conference
featuring
Pierre Lapointe
President and Chief Executive Officer, ArcelorMittal Mining Canada G.P.
who will deliver a dinner conference presentation on:
The Day After the Low Cycle
Abstract: Pierre Lapointe, President and CEO at ArcelorMittal Mining Canada, will raise questions about what comes next after the low cycle in the mining industry. The picture he will paint is largely driven by the iron ore market, however it is quite similar for a lot of other minerals.
As we look at the industry trends over the last few years, we realize that a lot of companies tried to mitigate the situation by capturing quick wins, focusing on operational expenditures, adjusting the organizational structure, postponing investments in infrastructure, limiting investments in innovation and R&D, etc.
Now, let’s look together at what happened next…
Biography: Pierre Lapointe has been President and Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Mining Canada G.P. and Chairman of the Executive Board of ArcelorMit tal Infrastructure Canada G.P. since March 2015. He joined the ArcelorMittal Group in 2012 as General Manager, Operational Excellence, and then became Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer. His mandate was to improve the performance of all business processes as well as the integration of all technologies to bring them to a world class level. Pierre has also brought in integrated, global management of the company’s assets, from cradle to grave, in order to ensure value-added production.
Pierre has more than 20 years of experience in the aluminium and mining industries, from the start-up of new operations to their integrated management. Beginning in 2006, as Manager, Centre of Excellence, he structured the sharing of best management and operations practices for all of Alcoa Primary Metal’s worldwide sites. In 2008, Pierre became General Manager of the Deschambault Smelter, seat of Alcoa Primary Metal’s Centre of Excellence.
In 2010, he was named President of the Bécancour Smelter, co-owned by Alcoa and Rio Tinto Alcan.
Mr. Lapointe holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Université de Sherbrooke and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the same university.
